Voice lessons: musical theatre and pop for teenagers and adults in Westchester, NY
You’re preparing for your school’s musical and you want to sound confident when you walk on stage.
You’ve thought “I wish I could sing”, but you’ve never really given yourself the chance to try.
You’ve been told to “sing it more classically” when what you really want is to sound like a pop or musical theatre artist.
Hi! I’m Jimena, a professional singer and voice teacher. I’ve taught musical theatre, pop and classical music for ten years and I’ve helped singers of all ages and backgrounds develop strong, healthy, and expressive voices.
Buiding on what you already do well
Your voice already knows how to do a lot! I just help make those things more reliable. Instead of forcing your sound into a mold or starting from scratch, I build lessons around what you already do well and gently untangle what’s getting in the way. The goal is a voice that feels easier to use, more consistent, and ready to show up when you need it.
I keep things practical, playful, and low-pressure. Yes, you’ll learn solid technique, but you’ll also laugh, experiment, and actually enjoy the process. When singing feels fun and familiar, progress happens faster, and your voice starts working with you instead of feeling like something you have to wrestle into submission.
What Does a Lesson Look Like?
Every lesson is split into two parts: technique and repertoire.
In the technique portion, we use targeted vocal exercises to find and strengthen your natural voice, expand your range, and develop new skills. Whether it’s learning to belt safely, smoothing out vocal breaks, or working on breath control, this part of the lesson gives you the foundation you need to sing with confidence.
The repertoire portion is where we apply those skills to songs! You can bring in any songs you’d like to work on, or I can suggest pieces that match your voice and goals. We’ll focus on vocal technique, musical interpretation, and stage presence. If you’re preparing for an audition, we’ll work on polishing your performance so you can shine.
